37% of people in India live below the poverty line

The Arjun Sengupta Report, based on data between the period 1993-94 and 2004–05, states that 77% of Indians (955 million) live on less than Rs. 20 a day (about $0.50 per day). The N.C. Saxena Committee report states, on account of calorific intake apart from nominal income, that 50% of Indians live below the poverty line. A study by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative using a Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) found that there were 657 million people (53.7% of population) living in poverty in India.

Blessings in Disguise

Categories: Life Enrichment

A lot of times, when we pray and ask God to bless us, Him being a very good Father, He blesses us right away. You may think that God hasn’t blessed you yet. But what if you failed to recognize the blessing that came up to you just because it didn’t look like a blessing?

We had a painter who was painting our office. I have seen almost everyday for a few months when he was painting the office. I have talked with him. I have given him instructions. He used to wear clothes that were totally covered with paint.

One day, there was a festival in our state and the painter was off. But, He came to my office regarding something and he wanted to see me. At first,  when I saw him, I didn’t recognise him. I thought that he was a guest who walked in asking for prayers. But as I looked closely at him, I felt like I recognized him. He was very well dressed. His clothes were clean. There was no paint on him or his clothes. He didn’t look like a painter at all.

I then realised that I identified him mostly from what he was wearing and doing. But it took me sometime to recognize that he was the painter.

Often times, we miss out on our blessings just because we fail to look deep into what has come towards us. Maybe, some of us would have thought that it looked like a curse or a stormy situation. But when we learn to look deeper, we will recognize our blessings.

2 Corinthians 9:8. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
